Selecting clients?

Yes! This may feel counter intuitive at first. When talking with prospective clients of course you will share about your organization, how you work, what you do, who you are. But it’s also important to listen to them - their needs, desires, wants. This tells you a lot about their expectations and can help you determine if your organization is a good fit for them. Many times, we just assume that any client that comes through our door can be a fit. I mean on paper they do fit - but when you scratch the surface you realize that while you might be able to adequately serve them - it would be a stretch for you and your team. Don’t be afraid to make other recommendations to them on where they might find the right fit. Your ultimate goal should be to serve each and every client to the best of your ability and sometimes that means not serving them at all.

So how do you determine if a client is a good fit or not?

When engaging with clients as an adoption professional, it's essential to understand their motivations and reasons for choosing your agency.

Here are some questions to help you gather information about why they would choose your agency:

  1. What led you to consider infant adoption as the path to growing your family?

  2. What specific qualities or attributes are you looking for in an adoption professional?

  3. Have you researched other adoption agencies? If so, what stood out to you about our organization compared to others you've considered?

  4. What specific services or support are you seeking from an adoption professional?

  5. Are there any unique needs or circumstances that you believe our organization would be particularly equipped to address?

  6. Have you spoken with or received recommendations from other families who have adopted with us?

  7. What are your expectations regarding the level of communication and involvement with our company throughout the adoption process?

  8. How important is it for you to have a personalized and individualized experience with your adoption professional?

  9. What are your concerns or reservations, if any, about working with us?

  10. Is there anything specific about our values, expertise, or reputation that resonates with you and makes you consider choosing us?

By asking these questions, you can gain insight into your clients' motivations, expectations, and how your organization aligns with their needs. It allows you to address their concerns, highlight your agency's unique strengths, and tailor your services to meet their specific requirements. Understanding why clients choose you helps you provide a more personalized and impactful experience throughout their adoption journey.
